Vin Santo del Chianti Classico

Respecting tradition, this “noble” expression is one of the “historic” grapes of the territory, the Malvasia del Chianti, along with small amounts of Trebbiano and Sangiovese. After traditional withering and vinification, the Vinsanto matures for 9 years in small oak casks.

Castello di Brolio Vinsanto, Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC

The grapes destined for Vin Santo are gathered late in the harvest, at the point at which the sugar content is high enough to sustain the long ageing process that this wine undergoes. The bunches are hung and left to dry partially for several months. The must obtained from light crushing ferments slowly and is then placed in 225-litre half-barriques of oak.

Grape varieties: Malvasia, Trebbiano, Sangiovese.
Vineyards: Altitude: 200 m s.l.m. | Exposure: south | Training: spurred cordon and Guyot
Soil: New alluvional soil, well drained but also fresh, which grant a good acidity to the grapes even when fully ripe.
Harvest: The grapes were hadpicked on September 25, 2015.
Ageing: Nine years in casks (called caratelli).
Alcohol: 16,5 % vol.

Tasting notes

Intense Amber yellow colour. On the nose floral hints of dates, and dried fruit. The palate is soft, enveloping, and warm. Long finish with a return of olfactory sensations...
